Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
Hebrews 13 v8 [NIVUK]
Well, the world keeps surprising us—or maybe not. With President Trump re-elected, emotions are running high across the globe. Closer to home, we’re grappling with a new government, budget changes, and, of course, the British weather doing its usual best to keep us guessing. It’s tempting to feel like everything is spinning out of control.
But Hebrews 13 v8 offers a steadying truth: Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. No matter how unpredictable life feels, Jesus doesn’t change. His character is unwavering, His promises hold firm, and His kingdom isn’t shaken by the latest headlines.
This doesn’t mean we shrug our shoulders and say, “Oh well, God’s got this.” We’re called to pray for our leaders (even the ones who seem, let’s say, unconventional — 1 Timothy 2 v1-2) and to love our neighbours in practical ways. Whether it’s lending a hand to someone struggling or offering kindness in a world that seems increasingly short of it, we’re invited to join God in the work of hope and healing.
When the news feels overwhelming, remember this: our hope doesn’t rest on any political leader, policy, or economic forecast. It’s anchored in the unchanging Christ. So, take a deep breath, say a prayer, and maybe even switch off the news for a bit. The world may feel wobbly, but God’s got a firm grip.
