Let the Foolish Things of the World Confound the Wise

[This reflection by Chris Ginter was published in the weekly news bulletin of Horley Baptist Church, 22/Dec/2024]

I often think I fit into that category!

When I was a child my mum would pray this prayer over me as I went to sleep at night:
Gentle Jesus meek and mild look upon this little child, pity my simplicity, suffer me to come to thee.

Jesus said in Mark 10 v 14 “Let the little children come to me and forbid them not for such is the Kingdom of Heaven. Assuredly I say unto you, whoever does not receive the Kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.” And He took them up in His arms, lay His hands on them and blessed them.

I love the uncomplicated things of God, when God moves in power, it’s usually straightforward and His Holy Spirit goes right to the crux of the matter, straight to the heart. Have you ever been in a house group where the teaching is very complicated, high falutin and the person’s teaching seems superior, important and pretentious?

There seems to be someone there that is breaking up emotionally, they may have been deeply hurt and crying out for comfort, some little old lady speaks a word in the middle of a difficult situation. Gods healing power breaks through. It doesn’t need to be a big long counselling session or a deliverance prayer. Somehow the person is bathed in love and ‘Mary Jones’ is healed!!! Hallelujah.

I love that, and that is my desire to give a word in season to those who are weary. Isaiah says “God wakens me morning by morning to hear as the learn’d.” It doesn’t mean you have to swallow a concordance but it does mean we can be guided by the Holy Spirit.

Yes please, Jesus let this be my prayer, that I can comfort those who have no hope. I want to walk hand in hand with the Prince of Peace!

Bless you all this Christmas time and may Jesus bring us into a new understanding of His love in 2025!

With Blessings, Chris Ginter
