Inviting People, in the Era of “The Quiet Revival”

[This reflection by Dazz Jones was published in the weekly news bulletin of Horley Baptist Church, 12/Oct/2025]

Something exciting is happening in our culture — a quiet stirring of faith, a gentle return to questions of meaning, hope, and belonging. Some have begun to call this movement a “quiet revival”. Unlike past revivals marked by tents, crowds, and fiery preaching, this one unfolds in living rooms, coffee shops, online chats, and small acts of kindness. It’s quieter, but no less real.

In this era, invitation looks different, it has to. People aren’t necessarily waiting for a flyer or a sermon; they’re waiting to be seen, known, and welcomed. The good news is that the gospel has always traveled best through relationships — through one heart opening to another. When Jesus invited His followers to “come and see”, He wasn’t pushing an event, he was extending a relationship.

Today, the invitation we offer must follow the same line. It’s not about filling seats but filling hearts — helping people see that they already have a place in God’s story. The quiet revival is teaching us that evangelism is less about persuasion and more about presence. It begins with listening well, loving generously, and living authentically.

Consider how many people around us are spiritually curious but institutionally cautious. They long for purpose but are wary of performance. For them, a personal conversation, a meal shared, or a simple prayer offered in sincerity may open more doors than a program ever could. This is the sacred work of invitation — not recruiting, but restoring connection.

In this moment, every believer has a role to play. You don’t need a platform or a plan — just a posture of openness. Ask God to make your daily routines into sacred opportunities: the grocery line, the school pickup, the walk with a neighbour. Every encounter is a chance to reflect the warmth of Jesus’ welcome.

And as we do, let’s remember that the quiet revival is not ours to manage — it’s God’s to grow. Our task is to tend the soil, to make space where faith can take root. The Spirit is already moving in people’s hearts; our invitations simply give that movement a place to land.

May our church continue to be known not for its worship but for its welcome — a community where strangers become friends, questions are met with grace, and the love of Jesus is spoken fluently in bothword and deed.

In this era of the quiet revival, the call is simple and profound: Invite people in — not to a building, but to belonging.
