Life is challenging and that can feel overwhelming! Stress, responsibilities, financial concerns, and relationship struggles can weigh us down and make things feel difficult. Then don’t we love to complain about it, It’s the British prerogative! However, amid these difficulties, cultivating an “attitude of gratitude” can provide us with the strength to persevere.
Gratitude is more than just saying “thanks!” to someone. It’s a powerful tool that helps us focus on the positive aspects of life, despite things being tough. A man named Paul, in a letter he wrote to the Thessalonians, encouraged them as followers of Jesus to “give thanks in all circumstances“[1]. This is quite challenging, because they were probably having a pretty tough time of it, it wasn’t very fun following Jesus ‘back in the day’. Yet, it’s in these words that we find the secret to enduring hardship.
One simple way to build a habit is to keep a journal (spoiler alert: you’ll hear this from me in this week’s sermon). Each day, try and write down 3 things you are thankful for. They don’t have to be big things; in fact the small things are sometimes more helpful (or they are all there is!)
For example, you might write about coffee with a good friend, the beauty of a sunset, or the comfort of a warm bed. Over time, these small acknowledgements can transform your outlook and help you see the goodness around you, despite whatever challenges you face.
God is good, but often we need reminding of just how good he is. When we thank Him for His blessings, we recognize His presence and work in our lives. This strengthens our faith and deepens our relationship with Him. In times of trouble, this connection can be a source of great comfort and strength.
So, take a moment today, right now if you can, to reflect on what you are grateful for. Write it down, share it with others, and thank God for His many blessings. In doing so, you will find the strength and peace to face whatever comes your way.
God Bless, Dazz
