Advent is a season observed in most Christian denominations as a time of waiting and preparation for both the celebration of Jesus’s birth at Christmas and the return of Christ at the Second Coming. It begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas, often referred to as Advent Sunday. Advent is the beginning of the liturgical year in Western Christianity.[1]

And the city and all that is within it shall be devoted to the Lord for destruction. And they burned the city with fire, and everything in it.

The verses above were taken from the Biblical account of the conquest of Jericho in around 1406BC. The account tells us how the Israelite army surrounded the city and most of the city wall collapsed, allowing the army to systematically destroy the city.

November starts with a period of remembrance – first we remember a guy who efforts came to naught and then we remember those whose efforts were instrumental in protecting and maintaining the freedoms that our society values.
