So Easy To Talk About!

[This reflection by Dennis Ginter was published in the weekly news bulletin of Horley Baptist Church, 13/Sep/2026]

Over the past month or so, things have come up which I’ve never had to face before. Or – more accurately – things that I’ve always avoided facing.

Over and over God asks us to trust him in difficult situations. Why is it that we (I at least) find it so hard to actually admit that life is becoming unmanageable? I get all worked up about things over which I have no control. Often I need to recognise that others are there trying to help me, only to find that I’m being ungrateful and interfering!

Almost every devotional I’ve read over the past few weeks, it seems, has focused on resting in God’s peace. I’ve known for ages – in my head – how important that is, and I’ve talked about it as though I’ve found it. The truth is I haven’t!

I have friends who can help me with this – if only I’ll open up about my helplessness. And often the hardest part is to just sit still and know that He is God – that He knows me and my circumstances intimately. And that sometimes just holding His hand is all I should be doing. I’ll try that now!

Blessings…
